the power network
your character's journals are in essence their power network accounts. two anonymous and unaligned npcs run and maintain the network, set up specifically to allow only specially powered people regardless of their alignment. it was made to evade outsiders and confirm the identity of those joining. it was launched on june 11th, 2019. your character's join date on the forum is essentially when you're added to the community. it is ran with no bias or alignment leanings.


organizations
xlcor, pronounced "excelsior," an espionage, special law enforcement and counter-terrorism agency that employs specially gifted agents. it was originally formed by the u.s. goverment but broke off from the government in 1985. the agency is currently headed by penelope branch with headquarters located in downtown manhattan.

the kings are a crime syndicate led by one of the most feared crime bosses in new york city, benedict pierce. the kings are a major source of crime for the city, both violent and non-violent, rumored to have nearly a third of nypd officers in their pocket. the kings employ many lower level villains and can either align or butts heads with supervillains that pass through the city. they work in direct opposition of xlcor, known vigilantes and heroes who have made it their goal to vanquish organizaed crime.

the city tribune is a newspaper with a large online following. founded in the 90s by a man named robert rhyne, the tribune has shifted its focus in the last decade from regular news to current events involving extraordinary individuals in the city. the tribune currently employs over 40 journalists and offers payment for tips, stories, and photos involving popular figures in the community.

cessna prepatory academy, often referred to as c.p.a, is a boarding school located just outside of the northern part of the city. it was founded in 1987 when french immigrant francois cessna saw a need for it. he poured his family money into this venture and eventually opened up to donations, which it now runs on. the the academy takes in every youngster struggling with their "unnatural" abilities to help them come to terms with what they're able to do. the academy employs a full-time staff and has homed many students over the years. they also offer cheap room and board for any down on their luck "special" being until they get onto their feet. francois cessna died in 2012 and left the school in the hands of his oldest daughter, clemence.

chemcorp is a large chemical testing corporation. it was originally organized as an experimental chem lab in the 1940s during ww2 and has since become one of the world's largest, most diversified multinational conglomerates. from the outside, chemcorp has a reputation for being the #1 leader of chemical research and has recently announced that they've begun to work closely with medical and pharmaceutical labs in an effort to finding cures for diseases and illnesses. it's newest ceo, ethan diamond, took the reigns in 2017. he was eager to inherit the more sinister side of the company, producing and selling harmful weapons. he's recently opened a department comprised of a secret team of scientists who are working to find ways to eliminate people with special abilities or at the very least, render them useless. it's headquarters is now located in manhattan.


npcs
clemence cessna: is the current dean at cessna prepatory academy. she is the daugther of the founder and has as much love for the academy as her father did. she has kept it's longstanding traditions and has done everything in her power to keep it funded. she throws an annual gala to raise funds and is often at every upscale nyc event she can get into to network and draw in more wealthy citizens to donate.

peter flynn: police commissioner of the nypd since 2015. public opinion on commissioner flynn is widely divided due to his tolerant stance on vigilantes and working with them instead of against them. critics say that allowing heroes to police the streets has weakened the nypd's governing power.

penelope branch: current head of xlcor. agent branch oversees the entire agency and is routinely involved in finding and recruiting new agents. she led the petition in the early 80s to free xlcor from the u.s. government's grasp and has been in charge ever since. known for her tough leadership style and occasional controversial decisions over the years, agent branch is extremely dedicated to doing the right thing for society and shows unwavering loyalty to her agents—sometimes more than she shows to law and order.

benedict pierce: new york city real estate mogul and head of the kings crime syndicate. pierce plays the facade of a self-made multimillionaire, but most of his fortune actually comes from the intricate crime network he's spent years weaving together. the nypd hasn't been able to pin him because he's got about a third of them in his pockets.

francine frank: an overly zealous reporter for the city tribune. francine has gotten into the middle of many dangerous situations before. she's been injured on scenes and has been saved a number of times by countless good guys. most people in the beingverse consider her to be a pest, but there's no denying francine gets the job well done. many masked villains, heroes and everyone in between has had to watch their step around her because of her snooping. she's deteremined to expose secret identities in order to break the biggest, most shocking scoops first.

ethan diamond: the ceo of chemcorp. the bottom line for ethan is money and he's known to ruthlessly take out competition or whistleblowers. his sanity has devolved over the years into an obsession with people with special abilities as they serve to be the greatest threat to his corporation. his bio team made a serum that he injected into himself, giving him enhanced agility and speed. he has since been using his new abilities to fight off anyone that tries to get in the way of his business goals.

the crusher: a new villain that emerged around christmas of 2018. he is a skilled fighter with super strength and a suit that has given him the ability of flight. he's taken out two top nyc officials since christmas with no one able to identify his true identity or find out where he lives. his motive and future plans are not yet known but word on the street is that he's gathering quite the team to pull off something big.
